Why Traditore?
Traditore is a collaborative platform for researchers, translators, and scholarly communities working with ancient texts.
Translation is deliberation
Translating ancient texts requires interpretive decisions that often cannot be reduced to a single indisputable solution. The same reading may admit several approaches depending on the linguistic, contextual, or editorial criteria adopted.
Translation is therefore a process of deliberation in which alternatives and arguments form part of the knowledge being produced.
The process is knowledge too
In translation projects, the alternatives considered, arguments made, and decisions adopted are often scattered across successive versions of the text, comments, and other spaces of discussion.
This makes it difficult to reconstruct the interpretive process, compare proposals systematically, and understand why a particular option was accepted or set aside.
A genealogy of versions
Traditore applies principles from version-control systems to translation, including branches, change history, version comparison, reviews, and merges. This allows alternative translations to develop in parallel, concrete proposals to be discussed, contributions to be reviewed, and every decision to remain traceable.
Unlike text editors, conventional translation platforms, and document repositories, Traditore does more than preserve the resulting texts. It links each proposal to its origin, authorship, supporting arguments, and the editorial decisions that shaped its evolution.
